I'd actually recommend a rip from CD - for some reason I couldn't find one at the time.

Those versions might be a better recording than mine from cassette, even though it's 32kbps/11mHz. Thanks to captainelliotspencer.

I could not find this recording in digital format (#searchfail?),
so I converted my copy of this recording to MP3.
From audio cassette (Nakamichi Dragon) to CD
(Pioneer PDR-555RW) to MP3 (iTunes 8, 96kbps VBR).

Dolby NR was NOT used, so there is tape hiss.
Some might say it's brighter without it, and
more muddled with it... you can post-process or
equalize to your liking. I think I prefer it with
Dolby B enabled on the deck (as was done with my
recording of Catch-22).

Frank Muller is (was), in my opinion, the best book
on tape reader, ever. Stephen King was quoted saying
(something to the effect) that sometimes when he wrote,
he heard Frank Muller's voice reading it.
(His reading of "Hunt for Red October" is incredible.

The back cover if this recording includes the quote:
"I've written a book and I hope Frank Muller will read it.
He will do such a fantastic job that the blind will see..."
--Stephen King

The novella was adapted for the screen in the film The Shawshank Redemption.

Comments

This is a marvelous story. Happens to be on of the better movies made of a King story too, in my opinion. The Nakamechi Dragon is an awesome machine. Thanks for your efforts,
I must agree with you about Frank Muller. His Dark Tower readings were as perfect as audio books can be.
A true shame that he cannot share that voice with us again.
